Corten steel contains alloying elements that oxidize under weather exposure and develop an adherent patina. This rust-like surface layer is a normal part of the material's appearance and helps protect the underlying steel.

The patina continues to develop and stabilize over time, so color variation is expected rather than a defect.

Corten steel products are designed for outdoor use, but simple protection can help during long periods without use:

1. Place the product in a sheltered area where possible.
2. Prevent water from pooling.
3. Keep the fire pit clean and free of accumulated ash.

When the cooking surface is still warm but safe to work on, use a scraper to remove residue from the cooking plate and a suitable brush on the grill. After cleaning, apply a light layer of vegetable oil to cooking surfaces that require oil protection.

Only empty ash after the fire bowl and embers have cooled completely. A lid or protective cover can help reduce rainwater, snow, and leaves accumulating inside the unit.

If light surface rust appears on a coated or cooking surface where rust removal is appropriate, follow the product-specific care instructions before applying protective oil or touch-up treatment.

Corten steel changes continuously during the weathering process. The developing patina can take roughly 6–12 months to mature, and weather and geographic conditions affect the final color. Differences between a newly delivered product and promotional photography are therefore normal.

The cooking plate is designed with a slight inward slope so small amounts of grease or liquid move toward the central heat source and can burn away. However, it is not possible to guarantee that no grease will ever reach the ground.

Common causes include excessive cooking oil, an installation that is not level, and normal splatter during high-temperature cooking. Too much oil may also pass through ventilation openings if it cannot burn away completely.

Yes. During the weathering process, colored particles from the developing patina can be carried by rainwater and may discolor porous flooring. Protect vulnerable surfaces, especially during the early weathering stage.

During the first two or three months of weathering, avoid surfaces that are easily stained because runoff from the forming patina can leave orange marks. Place the fire pit on a stable, heat-resistant, non-combustible surface.

Dry grass and combustible wooden surfaces should be avoided. Also consider clearance from surrounding materials and local rules for outdoor fires.
